Stećakland, a richly imagined virtual world inspired by the medieval stećci and their distinctive ornaments, has been adapted and reimagined. In the performance, a single actor served as both a narrative guide and a living interface between the physical and virtual realms. Equipped with a VR headset on stage, the actor’s first-person journey through the Stećakland environment has been live-cast and projected onto the stage set, allowing the audience to accompany the actor’s subjective passage into an imagined, symbolic world. This transition from the tangible set into the virtual Stećakland landscape has been carefully choreographed to create a fluid movement between reality and imagination. This approach transforms the theatrical space into a living portal between historical memory and virtual reimagination, offering a uniquely layered audience experience and redefining how digital heritage can be interpreted and staged through performing arts.
The premiere and two performances of StecakLand Theater play were very well received by the audience. Here are impressions of visual artist Emir Durmišević: “Tonight I watched the play “Stecakland” at Kamerni Teatar 55. It is a special dimension and experience to see on stage the symbiosis of theater, movement, acting, concept design, visualization of ornaments from stecak tombstones, 3D models, animation. A truly unique multimedia harmony of creative expressions. I enjoyed the process of developing concepts for the Stecakland project, but I was especially impressed to see the final “product”, the final creative stamp on the engagement of the entire team. I am grateful to the team of the Association for Digitalization and Informatization of Cultural Heritage “Digi.ba” for trusting me and entrusting me with the realization of conceptual visual solutions for the “Stecakland” project.”
