The hardworking crew from DIGI.BA has during the weekends in the last few months completed digitization of stecaks in project partner countries Serbia, Montenegro, and Croatia. In Serbia we were working in Mramorje near Perucac, capturing images of stecaks that are not so characteristic for their decorations, but for extraordinary shapes and placement. Doman experts Milica Radisic and Ugljesa Vojvodic from the Archaeological Institute in Belgrade advised us and provided historical information.
In Montenegro, we have digitized the stecaks from the lapidarium of the Royal Palace Biljarda in Cetinje. These stecaks have very interesting decorations, which will inhabit our virtual environment stecakland. We were working in collaboration with domain experts Goran Pajovic, Vukan Raznatovic, and Filip Kuzman from the National Museum of Montenegro.
Stecaks selected in Croatia were located close to Dubrovnik, in Konavle region. They are nicely decorated, but decorations in one of them are not visible to the bare eye. However, in digitized 3D model, they show up and reveal a scene from the war. Our guide and consultant in this endeavor was an archaeologist from Dubrovnik Museums Domagoj Perkic.
